It’s important to be different. No one can take a step forward if they’re not differentiating. No one can make history if they are not memorable.
Today’s Arubrica is a departure from the usual. Interestingly, today I was thinking about what I should talk about and wanted to “dialogue” with you about something different. I don’t feel like talking about trends. Nor about colors. Nor about furniture. I feel like talking about being creative. Being free. About the ability we all have to do anything, without barriers and without fear of daring.
Let me tell you something: in my office I often say – “Let me go crazy. Let me think freely” – and, in fact, if not, we will get into a square and we will feel blocked and limited. And that can’t happen. It’s important to be different. No one can take a step forward if they are not differentiating. No one can make history if they’re not memorable.
And it’s funny, because the thing I struggle with most on a daily basis is clichés. Let me give you an example: when we think of a waiting room, for example in a doctor’s office, the first image that comes to mind is a room full of benches, with matching chairs, sitting on a minimalist white design. We also think of some frames with some ordinary pictures on the walls. If it is ordinary and boring just to think about, why do we keep designing them like that? Why can’t a waiting room be a beautiful, comfortable area, with sofas in nice colors and fabrics, with an engaging and warm atmosphere? This is my point. Let’s have a free spirit! In everything in life. Only this way we can evolve, be something and someone.
It is important sometimes, in order to be able to create freely, to get away from everything, even from ourselves. Another thing… the fact that we are all different is not bad. It’s wonderful! Let’s see: if someone doesn’t share the same opinion as me, it doesn’t mean that the other person is wrong. It implies that I accept everyone’s differences and, in this sense, I believe that if we all manage to do this exercise, the world will be a much better place. At the work level, this will also be good. If there are different visions on the same subject, and if the team works well together, I am sure that the result will be much more creative and innovative. Because we are all different. We all have our role. No one is more, just as no one is less. And people who don’t understand this are really in the box.
Sometimes I find myself in meetings discussing completely strange and bizarre ideas with clients, but that never means they are bad ideas. Everything is valid as long as it has a logical and rational intention. It is important to undress! To be bold and daring! To assert ourselves! To have a voice in everything we do, without fear of things going wrong. Deep down, we must assume our uniqueness!
