At first and across the board, there is usually a great tendency to choose white. However, my opinion about this color is not so favorable since it turns out to be cold and without personality. It is the antithesis of everything a home should carry.

Choosing the color of our home is not as easy and simple as it seems. Colors are the first impression and the basis for all the decoration, so choosing a shade that doesn’t work may jeopardize not only all the work done, but also the resident’s comfort.

In a first option and in a transversal way, there is generally a great tendency to choose white. However, my opinion about this color is not so favorable since it is cold and without personality. It is the antithesis of everything a home should carry. Gray is another color that gains an ambitious set of fans, and if it is not well worked out in terms of electrical and lighting, it can result in a very uninteresting and unwelcoming environment.

So, what is the best color for a house?

First of all, it’s important to stress that colors stimulate our emotions – some generate sadness, others anxiety. Each one has its own properties, but all of them, in some way, interfere with our way of being. It is completely different to approach exercises in a restaurant or in a house. In catering we pay for an experience, while at home we seek an escape from the chaos of our daily lives. Silence. The comfort. We want to relax and rest. To enjoy a comfortable space with our family. Off-white or pastel tones do not carry the coldness of white, they are light and easy to combine. This does not mean that at certain moments, color cannot appear. Because it can and it should. But through materials-woods, lacquered, stones…. The more we work with materials, the more body we give to the space. Textures are worked in.

When it comes to choosing colors for children’s rooms, it is important to forget the “rule” of blue for boys and pink for girls, after all colors have no genders and there is such a wide and interesting range, that it is worth betting on other shades, such as greens, taupes, tile… finally, there is a whole world of shades that are challenging and work.

For work areas, curiously enough, lilac works super well since it stimulates creativity. Green generates empathy and blues tranquility and security. Even so, for walls and ceilings, I always opt for light shades in order to avoid tiredness and distractions, leaving the color for notes or accessories.

When choosing colors for your home, keep in mind that the more intense and striking shades wear out more easily. Color loses its strong tone over time, especially when applied to the facade of the house. And remember that when painting your house it is important to have a team of professionals if you want a result that makes your house look beautiful and alive.
