e decorating a room that is too small, while adding value to it, is a challenge for anyone. The best way to face it is to accept that the size of a space does not have to be a limitation or an obstacle to creativity, quite the contrary: small spaces are increasingly an attractive reality and of great potential when approached with special attention. The important thing is to be judicious and make balanced choices.

The proportion and volumetry of the decorative pieces, as well as their tonality are essential in this reflection.

Each space must be analyzed in its uniqueness, where light, window size, and proportion should be predominant in the choices to be adopted.

These small tips that I leave you will make a big difference to enhance every inch of your home.

COLORS OF WALLS AND CEILINGS
On one hand, there is the constant safety of white as the predominant color in every interior space, and, on the other hand, the sometimes risky bet of assuming different wall and ceiling shades. Neither of these represents the only solution.

This decision must, therefore, be considered in a balanced way. Living rooms should result in cozy and soothing environments. The ideal is to opt for a single tone throughout the space, betting on pastel shades, cafe au lait, or even light dry green, a seemingly irreverent bet, but which is a trend and a mark of timelessness.

CURTAINS
When choosing curtains as the “background” of a wall, you must pay attention to the omission of its support rail – for example, it must be hidden between the end of the false ceiling and the beginning of the window.

This small step visually brings more elegance and refinement to the space!

The shade of the walls and curtains should be as similar as possible, translating a balanced and uniform scene. Avoid fabrics that are too elaborate, heavy, or even plain. In most cases, a little transparency is advantageous, as it allows light to enter while preserving privacy.

FURNITURE
When it comes to the selection of decorative pieces, they should be as simple and transparent as possible. However, simple does not mean white! Coffee tables covered with mirror, for example, are always an excellent strategy, as they reflect light and spatiality.

Dining tables with glass or marble tops (an element with such a Portuguese identity) are a refined option, giving visual and spatial amplitude. Besides, they open space for a play of textures in the chairs. Why not put leather seats and fabric backs in the same tones?

Hanging TV sideboards are a plus, not only for the lightness they convey, but also for their minimalist and modern design. And they work even when combined with more rustic pieces! Once again, forget white here, wood is always a good choice.

LIGHTING
If the space is small, opt for ceiling lights in corner areas or next to sofas, so as not to restrict passage areas and offer more space. And isn’t that what we all want?

DECORATIVE ELEMENTS
This is where you should have more freedom to play with colors and patterns. Pillows and other accessories personalize the space and can be easily changed, quickly creating new atmospheres.

And don’t forget: the process of decorating a small space is an exercise in compromise and controlled choices, affirming the identity and personal stamp of each one.
